justify;\">Ibiza,\u00a0katalanisch\u00a0und amtlich\u00a0Eivissa ist mit einer Fl\u00e4che von 572 km\u00b2 die drittgr\u00f6\u00dfte Insel der\u00a0spanischen\u00a0autonomen Region\u00a0Balearen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mit der s\u00fcdlich gelegenen Insel\u00a0Formentera\u00a0und zahlreichen kleineren und unbewohnten Felseninseln bildet Ibiza die Inselgruppe der\u00a0Pityusen. Amtssprachen sind\u00a0Spanisch\u00a0(Kastilisch) und\u00a0Katalanisch, der auf der Insel vorherrschende katalanische\u00a0Dialekt\u00a0wird\u00a0Ibizenk\u00a0genannt. Die Insel hat 134.460 Einwohner (Stand: 2011), der Ausl\u00e4nderanteil betr\u00e4gt etwa 20 Prozent, der Anteil deutscher Einwohner liegt bei rund 3 Prozent. Seit 2001 ist die Zahl der dauerhaft auf Ibiza lebenden Menschen um mehr als 50 Prozent gestiegen. Die gr\u00f6\u00dften Gemeinden sind der Hauptort\u00a0Ibiza-Stadt (katal.\u00a0Ciutat d\u2019Eivissa)\u00a0mit rund 50.000 Einwohnern,\u00a0Santa Eul\u00e0ria des Riu\u00a0(rund 34.000 Einwohner),\u00a0Sant Josep de sa Talaia\u00a0(rund 24.000 Einwohner) und\u00a0Sant Antoni de Portmany\u00a0(rund 22.000 Einwohner).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ibiza ist traditionell Urlaubsziel des internationalen\u00a0Jetset\u00a0und die Insel der \u201eReichen und der Sch\u00f6nen\u201c. Seit den 1990er-Jahren gilt die Insel auch als Treffpunkt der Jungen und Junggebliebenen, die sich nachts in den zahlreichen Gro\u00dfraumdiskotheken am\u00fcsieren.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Geografie<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die Balearen sind die abgesprengte Fortsetzung des\u00a0andalusischen Felsengebirges, das sich von\u00a0Gibraltar\u00a0\u00fcber die\u00a0Sierra Nevada\u00a0hinzieht. Ein etwa 1500 Meter tiefer Meeresgraben trennt die Inseln vom spanischen Festland. Die Pityusen haben, wie auch die Balearen, einen eigenen Festlandsockel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ibiza ist eine im Inneren h\u00fcgelige Insel mit zerkl\u00fcfteter K\u00fcste, die durch sandige\u00a0Calas\u00a0unterbrochen ist. Die K\u00fcstenl\u00e4nge betr\u00e4gt etwa 210\u00a0Kilometer. Die Insel liegt ungef\u00e4hr 90\u00a0Kilometer \u00f6stlich des spanischen Festlands. Ibizas h\u00f6chste Erhebung ist der\u00a0sa Talaia\u00a0mit\u00a0476\u00a0msnm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die biologische Vielfalt und Kultur von Ibiza wurde 1999 zum\u00a0Weltkulturerbe\u00a0erkl\u00e4rt.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Geschichte<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die Ureinwohner (ca. 2000 v. Chr.)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00dcber die Ureinwohner der Pityusen ist nur wenig bekannt. Es wird jedoch vermutet, dass die Entwicklung \u00e4hnlich wie auf den Nachbarinseln Mallorca und Menorca verlaufen ist.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Zwischen 2000 und 1600 v. Chr. entwickelte sich auf den Balearen die\u00a0Talayot-Kultur\u00a0(von arab.\u00a0Atalayi, Ausblick). Die Talayots waren Steint\u00fcrme, die als\u00a0Wacht\u00fcrme\u00a0und Kultst\u00e4tten dienten. Im Unterschied zu den Nachbarinseln hat man auf Ibiza und Formentera jedoch keine Reste solcher Bauten gefunden. Die H\u00f6hlenmalereien in\u00a0Ses Fontenelles\u00a0bei Sant Antoni sowie die\u00a0Megalithen\u00a0von\u00a0Ca Na Costa\u00a0auf\u00a0Formentera\u00a0deuten jedoch darauf hin, dass die Pityusen ebenfalls bereits um diese Zeit besiedelt waren. Es waren vermutlich\u00a0iberische\u00a0Hirtenv\u00f6lker, die die Insel als erste erschlossen.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die Ph\u00f6nizier (7. bis 2. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Im Jahre 654 v. Chr. gr\u00fcndeten die\u00a0ph\u00f6nizischen\u00a0Karthager\u00a0an der Ostseite der Hafenbucht von Ibiza eine\u00a0Kolonie, die sie\u00a0Ibes\u00a0bzw.\u00a0Ebusim\u00a0nannten, m\u00f6glicherweise nach dem ph\u00f6nizischen Gott\u00a0Bes. Andere Ansichten f\u00fchren den Namen der Insel auf das ph\u00f6nizische\u00a0\u201ei busim\u201c\u00a0zur\u00fcck, was \u201eInsel des Wohlgeruchs\u201c oder \u201eDuftinsel\u201c bedeuten w\u00fcrde. Die Stadt Ibiza hatte das\u00a0M\u00fcnzrecht\u00a0und war ein wichtiger Handelshafen. Die Ph\u00f6nizier beuteten auch die reichen Salzvorkommen sowie die\u00a0Bleiminen\u00a0bei Sant Carles aus. Die\u00a0Nekropole\u00a0Puig des Molins(M\u00fchlenberg) gilt als bedeutendste bekannte ph\u00f6nizische Begr\u00e4bnisst\u00e4tte. In der N\u00e4he von\u00a0Sant Vicent de sa Cala\u00a0wurde\u00a01907\u00a0der Grottentempel\u00a0Es Culleram\u00a0entdeckt, der der G\u00f6ttin\u00a0Tanit\u00a0geweiht war.\u00a0Hannibal\u00a0soll, der lokalen Geschichtsschreibung zufolge, auf der Insel\u00a0Sa Conillera\u00a0bei Sant Antoni geboren worden sein. Offiziell erblickte er das Licht der Welt in\u00a0Karthago, es ist aber verb\u00fcrgt, dass Hannibal auf seinem Feldzug gegen Rom (Zweiter Punischer Krieg, 218\u2013201 v. Chr.) die ber\u00fcchtigten Steinschleuderer\u00a0Els Foners Balears\u00a0mit sich f\u00fchrte, die den Balearen ihren Namen gegeben haben.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die R\u00f6mer (ab 123 v. Chr.)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nachdem der\u00a0Zweite Punische Krieg\u00a0erst siegreich f\u00fcr die Karthager begonnen hatte, wurden Hannibals Truppen 202 v. Chr. bei\u00a0Zama\u00a0vernichtend geschlagen, und Karthago wurde auf sein afrikanisches Gebiet beschr\u00e4nkt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">123 v. Chr. wurden die Balearen von dem\u00a0r\u00f6mischen\u00a0Feldherrn\u00a0Quintus Caecilius Metellus Balearicus\u00a0erobert. Die R\u00f6mer nannten Ibiza-Stadt\u00a0Ebesus. Als\u00a0konf\u00f6derative Stadt\u00a0konnte sie sich eine gewisse Autonomie bewahren. So brauchte sie zum Beispiel keinen\u00a0Tribut\u00a0zu zahlen und durfte weiterhin das M\u00fcnzrecht aus\u00fcben. 70 v. Chr. wurde Ebesus unter dem Namen\u00a0Flavia Augusta\u00a0dem r\u00f6mischen Reich eingegliedert. Kaiser\u00a0Vespasian\u00a0lie\u00df Wirtschaft und Infrastruktur der Insel ausbauen. Die H\u00e4fen\u00a0Portus Salariusauf Formentera (heute\u00a0La Savina) und\u00a0Portus Magnus\u00a0(Sant Antoni de Portmany) wurden errichtet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die Nachbarinsel im S\u00fcden Ibizas erhielt von den R\u00f6mern den Namen\u00a0Frumentaria\u00a0(die Weizenreiche). Aufgrund des fruchtbaren Bodens und der damals reichhaltigen S\u00fc\u00dfwasser-Vorkommen diente sie ihnen als Kornkammer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">380 n. Chr. wurde das\u00a0Christentum\u00a0Staatsreligion der R\u00f6mer. Damit wurden auch die Balearen christianisiert. 391 erlie\u00df\u00a0Theodosius\u00a0das Verbot aller heidnischen Kulte. Nur wenige Jahre sp\u00e4ter zerbrach das R\u00f6mische Reich in das West- und das Ostreich (Byzanz).<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Einfall der Vandalen (5. Jahrhundert n. Chr.)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Im 5. Jahrhundert drangen die\u00a0Vandalen\u00a0unter Gunderich nach Ibiza vor. 426 wurde die Insel von ihnen komplett verw\u00fcstet. Erst 533\/534 gelang dem ostr\u00f6mischen Feldherrn\u00a0Belisar\u00a0die Vertreibung der Vandalen. Ibiza geriet unter die Oberherrschaft von\u00a0Byzanz. Aus dieser Zeit ist jedoch nur wenig bekannt.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die maurische Herrschaft (8. bis 13. Jahrhundert)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">711 eroberten die\u00a0Mauren\u00a0unter dem Feldherrn\u00a0Tarik\u00a0Spanien, aber bereits wenige Jahre zuvor waren sie auf den Balearen gelandet. 711 wurde Ibiza erstmals von den Mauren erobert. Sie nannten die Insel Yabisa (arabisch: \u201edie Trockene\u201c).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Es dauerte aber noch bis Anfang des 10. Jahrhunderts, bis die Mauren ihre Macht auf Ibiza stabilisieren konnten, zumal die Insel 859 einem\u00a0Raubzug der Wikinger\u00a0zum Opfer fiel. Die Mauren nannten die Balearen\u00a0Las Islas Orientales de Al-Andalus\u00a0(die Inseln \u00f6stlich von Andalusien). Sie geh\u00f6rten zum\u00a0Kalifat von C\u00f3rdoba. 1009 wurden die Balearen mit der an der K\u00fcste liegenden Stadt\u00a0D\u00e9nia\u00a0unabh\u00e4ngiges K\u00f6nigreich.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Etwa um diese Zeit nahmen aber auch die \u00dcberf\u00e4lle arabischer\u00a0Piraten\u00a0zu, die vor allem von Mallorca und Menorca aus operierten. 1114 wurden deshalb die Balearen Ziel einer pisanisch-katalanischen Strafexpedition.\u00a0Palma de Mallorca\u00a0wurde dabei vollst\u00e4ndig zerst\u00f6rt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Doch die islamische Herrschaft \u00fcber Ibiza konnte sich noch \u00fcber Jahre halten. 1203 setzten sich auf den Balearen die\u00a0Almoraviden\u00a0fest, die sich bis 1235 dort hielten.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die katalanische Eroberung (ab 1229)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1229 eroberten die Christen Mallorca im Zuge der\u00a0Reconquista\u00a0zur\u00fcck. Unter dem Befehl des K\u00f6nigs von\u00a0Arag\u00f3n,\u00a0Jakob I.,\u00a0der Eroberer, wurde die\u00a0Medina Yabisa\u00a0von\u00a0Guillermo de Montgr\u00ed, dem Erzbischof von\u00a0Tarragona\u00a0belagert. Der Legende nach konnten die Christen die Stadt sehr schnell einnehmen, weil der regierende Sultan\u00a0Yebusah\u00a0seinem Bruder die Lieblingssklavin weggenommen und verf\u00fchrt hatte. Aus Rache lie\u00df der Bruder die Christen in die Stadt. Ibiza wurde unter den Eroberern aufgeteilt, zu denen Montgr\u00ed auch der\u00a0Infant\u00a0(Prinz) von\u00a0Portugal\u00a0Don Pedro und der Graf von\u00a0Roussillon\u00a0Don Nuno Sans geh\u00f6rten. Katalanisch wird als Sprache auf der Insel eingef\u00fchrt.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Das K\u00f6nigreich Mallorca (ab 1256)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1256 rief\u00a0Jaume II.\u00a0das K\u00f6nigreich Mallorca aus, zu dem neben den Balearen auch\u00a0Montpellier\u00a0und\u00a0Roussillon\u00a0geh\u00f6rten. 1299 gr\u00fcndete er auf Ibiza die\u00a0Universidad, eine Beh\u00f6rde zur Verwaltung \u00f6ffentlicher Belange. Die\u00a0Pityusen\u00a0verf\u00fcgten damit \u00fcber eine eingeschr\u00e4nkte autonome Verwaltung, die bis ins 19. Jahrhundert bestehen blieb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Das K\u00f6nigreich Mallorca fiel jedoch 1349 an Aragon zur\u00fcck, nachdem\u00a0Jaume III.\u00a0von\u00a0Peter IV. von Aragon\u00a0get\u00f6tet wurde. Mit der Heirat von\u00a0Isabella von Kastilien\u00a0und\u00a0Ferdinand II. von Aragon\u00a0kam es schlie\u00dflich zur Einigung von Spanien. 1492 fiel\u00a0Granada, die letzte Stellung der Mauren in Spanien. Damit endete die \u00fcber 500 Jahre dauernde Reconquista.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die ibizenkischen Korsaren (16. bis 19. Jahrhundert)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gegen Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts segelte der\u00a0Genuese\u00a0Christoph Kolumbus\u00a0\u00fcber den\u00a0Atlantik, um einen neuen Seeweg nach\u00a0Indien\u00a0zu finden. Durch die Entdeckung der Neuen Welt verloren der Mittelmeerhandel und damit auch die Balearen an Bedeutung. Das Interesse der spanischen Krone an Ibiza und Formentera lie\u00df nach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Da die Inseln mittlerweile nahezu unbefestigt waren, zogen sie nun das Interesse der Piraten auf sich, die vor allem auf Menschenraub spezialisiert waren. Formentera wurde in der Zeit vollkommen entv\u00f6lkert und erst im 17. Jahrhundert wieder besiedelt. Historiker vermuten, dass die Ibizenkos ihre Fincas deshalb so weit auseinander bauten, weil gro\u00dfe Siedlungen die Aufmerksamkeit der Piraten auf sich zogen. Allerdings war auch die Einwohnerzahl durch die zahlreichen Kriege dezimiert.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Zum Schutz gegen die Piraten errichteten die Ibizenkos Wacht\u00fcrme. Jeder Wachturm stand mit einem anderen in Sichtweite. Durch Feuerzeichen konnten Meldungen \u00fcber anr\u00fcckende Piraten schnell weitergegeben werden, und die Bev\u00f6lkerung konnte Zuflucht in den\u00a0Wehrkirchen\u00a0nehmen, die in dieser Zeit erbaut wurden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unter\u00a0Philipp II. (Spanien), dem Sohn von\u00a0Karl V.\u00a0wurde 1556 mit dem Neubau der Stadtmauern von Ibiza-Stadt begonnen. Die eindrucksvollen Mauern umschlie\u00dfen noch heute die Altstadt\u00a0Dalt Vila, und nachdem Dalt Vila 1999 von der\u00a0UNESCO\u00a0zum\u00a0Weltkulturerbe\u00a0erkl\u00e4rt wurde, wurden sie sorgf\u00e4ltig saniert und restauriert.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die fortgesetzten Piratenangriffe, allerdings auch die spanische\u00a0Inquisition, die jede Abweichung vom katholischen Glauben unbarmherzig verfolgte, brachten die Ibizenkos schlie\u00dflich derma\u00dfen in wirtschaftliche Not, dass sie in die Offensive gingen und das Mittelmeer auf der Jagd nach feindlichen Schiffen durchkreuzten.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Das Korsarentum bl\u00fchte bis ins 19. Jahrhundert. Erst mit der Eroberung\u00a0Algiers\u00a0durch die\u00a0Franzosen\u00a0(1830) endete im Mittelmeer die\u00a0Piraterie. Der bekannteste der ibizenkischen\u00a0Korsaren\u00a0war\u00a0Antonio Riquer Arabi. Er brachte \u00fcber 100 Schiffe auf, darunter auch die schwer bewaffnete britische\u00a0BriggFelicity.
